Nigeria Launches Digital Education Database for Schools

On Wednesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria launched a digital education database, the Digital Nigeria Education Management Information System, urging state governments, local government education authorities, and private school proprietors to participate. Dr.
Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, stated that accurate and comprehensive educational data is essential for effective planning and policy formulation to enhance learning outcomes across the country. The platform serves as a central repository for educational data, providing real-time information on schools, classrooms, teachers, learners, and critical infrastructure.
As of now, 213,235 schools have registered, with 124,548 submitting data, representing a 58.4% report rate, capturing information on 40,130,454 learners, 1,193,877 teachers, and 607,508 toilets. Alausa warned that without credible statistics, addressing challenges in the education sector would be impossible.
The government aims to close existing data gaps and improve resource allocation, with support from international partners like the World Bank and UNICEF. Alausa also encouraged private schools to upload their data, clarifying that this exercise is not intended to increase taxation.
