FG Launches Livestock Study, Trains Dairy Farmers in Oyo

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development commenced a nationwide baseline study and training program for 100 small-scale dairy farmers in Oyo State as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria's livestock sector, improve food security, and boost local dairy production. The initiative was disclosed in a statement signed by Deputy Director Henrietta Okokon.

The baseline study aims to establish a credible evidence base for monitoring and evaluating the livestock value chain, with results expected to be released in the coming week. The study will utilize a mixed-method approach, including secondary data review and focus group discussions, to assess the current status of the sector.

The ministry emphasized the importance of a value chain approach to ensure comprehensive coverage of various livestock products, including cattle, poultry, and small ruminants. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development, Idri Ajimobi, stated that empowering farmers through training is essential for improving dairy production and achieving self-sufficiency in livestock products.
