Federal Ministry Trains 100 Dairy Farmers in Oyo State

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development is conducting a training program for 100 small-scale dairy farmers in Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria's dairy sector and improve local milk production. The initiative was disclosed in a statement signed by Deputy Director of Information, Henrietta Okokon, on Monday.

The training focuses on equipping participants with practical knowledge of best practices in dairy farming, improving husbandry techniques, and ensuring sustainable milk production. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development, Idri Ajimobi, emphasized the importance of empowering farmers at the grassroots level to enhance dairy production and achieve self-sufficiency in livestock products.

The program addresses challenges such as low productivity and poor animal health management. Florence Kalulu, the Oyo State Coordinator, noted the critical role of smallholder dairy farmers in Nigeria's agricultural system.

The training includes classroom instruction and hands-on sessions, with participants receiving essential inputs like heifers and feed to improve dairy operations.
