FG Finalizes PPP for 250MW Ikom Dam Project

The Federal Government of Nigeria is moving to finalize a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for the 250MW Ikom multipurpose dam project, as announced during an inaugural meeting of the project development committee. This committee was established following resolutions from a high-level stakeholder meeting at Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
The project aims to address multiple national needs, including flood control, renewable energy provision, and water resource management, thereby promoting economic development in the region. The committee, chaired by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), includes representatives from the Federal Ministries of Finance, Water Resources, Power, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, and the Cross River State government.
Jobson Oseodion Ewalefoh, the ICRC Director General, emphasized the strategic importance of the project and outlined next steps, including reviewing existing feasibility studies and determining the appropriate PPP structure. The Ikom dam is expected to deliver 250 megawatts of renewable baseload hydropower and strengthen energy security in the region.
