Nigerian Government Plans Massive Purchase of Surplus Produce to Stabilize Food Market

The Nigerian government, through the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Program Phase One (ATASP-1), led by Dr. Romanu Egba, aims to stabilize food prices by buying surplus produce from farmers to prevent post-harvest losses and ensure food security.

This initiative, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), seeks to strengthen value chains and boost agricultural productivity nationwide, particularly in Enugu. The move is in response to the recent sharp decline in food prices and aims to protect farmers from financial strain caused by market fluctuations.
