Nigerian Government Launches 90-Day Plan for Local Governance

The federal government is initiating a 90-day action plan to translate resolutions from a national conference of local government chairpersons and traditional rulers into actionable outcomes. This initiative aims to enhance local governance, community security, agricultural productivity, and public service delivery across Nigeria.
The proposal was discussed during the 2026 Third Quarter Stakeholders and Citizens Engagement Forum organized by the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs in Abuja. Rt. Hon. Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, emphasized the need for collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to tackle community challenges.
He urged participants to develop implementable recommendations with assigned responsibilities and measurable targets. A key component of the strategy includes the use of a Geographic Information System-based Project Monitoring Information Management System (GIS-PMIS) to track government projects.
The forum also highlighted the importance of collaboration between local government authorities and traditional institutions to address community-level issues.
