Tinubu Urges Local Government Chairmen to Drive Development

On September 22, President Bola Tinubu addressed the chairmen of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas at the inaugural Annual National Conference held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja. He called for the translation of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda into concrete grassroots development.

Tinubu stated that the effectiveness of government policies should be evaluated based on their impact on local communities. He reflected on his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, where he promoted the establishment of additional local councils to enhance governance proximity to the populace.

Since 2023, his administration has focused on national development rooted in local governance. Tinubu also mentioned the Federal Government's successful legal action that affirmed local government autonomy through a Supreme Court judgment on July 11, 2024.

He urged council chairmen to ensure improvements in primary healthcare, education, rural infrastructure, and support for small businesses.
