Nigeria's Cash Transfer Program Reaches 9.1 Million Households

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, has disclosed that 9,178,837 households have received at least the first tranche of N25,000 from the cash transfer program. Dr.

Bernard Doro announced this during an implementation briefing in Abuja. The program, which is part of the National Social Safety Net Project (NASSP), aims to provide direct financial support to poor and vulnerable households, with eligible households set to receive a total of N75,000 across three tranches.

As of now, 7,203,579 beneficiaries have received the second tranche, while 6,497,089 have received the third tranche, with disbursements ongoing nationwide. The initiative targets 15 million vulnerable Nigerians by June 2024.

Notably, 58.7% of the beneficiaries are women, reflecting efforts to promote women's economic participation. The program is funded by an $800 million loan from the World Bank, which aims to support 10 million households and expand to 15 million.

Abdullahi Alhassan Imam manages the program, which began in November 2023.
