Federal Government to Issue N5.4 Trillion in Treasury Bills

The Federal Government plans to offer N5.40 trillion in Nigerian Treasury Bills (NTBs) between October and December 2026, with about 75.93% allocated to 364-day bills. This information was released on October 13 by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Debt Management Office (DMO).
The programme allocates N4.10 trillion to 364-day bills, while 91-day and 182-day bills receive N650 billion each. At the first Q4 NTB Primary Market auction on October 7, N968.47 billion was allotted, surpassing the N900 billion offer.
The planned issuance is slightly below the N5.429 trillion maturing during the quarter, indicating a net reduction of approximately N29.27 billion. The programme covers 99.46% of maturing principal but varies across tenors.
The next auction is scheduled for October 14, with N450 billion on offer. The Q4 programme represents a shift from Q3, which targeted N5.80 trillion in gross issuance against N2.64 trillion in maturities.
