FG Commits to Eye Health Integration in Youth Development

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to integrating eye health into youth development policies and programs. This pledge was made during an event themed "See the Future: Advancing Eye Health and Youth Development," held in the conference room of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Abuja.

The Minister of Youth Development, Omolara Esan, emphasized that poor eyesight among young people often leads to frustration, anxiety, social withdrawal, and reduced academic confidence. She underscored the strong link between visual health and mental and psychosocial well-being.

The event featured a roundtable discussion aimed at promoting holistic youth development, with a focus on the fact that young people constitute 60 percent of Nigeria's population. The Minister stated that to fully harness the demographic dividend, it is essential for youth to have clear vision and opportunities.

The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Nigerian Optometry Student Association, urging participants to move beyond dialogue toward actionable commitments.
