CBM Launches N25bn SightQuest Nigeria Initiative to Combat Avoidable Blindness

Christian Blind Mission International (CBM) has launched a N25 billion investment initiative called SightQuest Nigeria in Abuja. The program, led by CBM's Chief Executive Officer, Dr.

Rainer Brockhan, aims to reduce avoidable blindness and visual impairments in Nigeria over the next ten years. This initiative is part of a long-standing partnership between CBM and Nigeria, with a commitment of 15 million euros (approximately N25 billion) for the next decade.

The program will focus on addressing refractive errors and providing cataract surgeries and refractive error services to underserved groups, integrating them into the existing primary eye care systems. The Nigerian government, represented by Dr.

Ipalibo Harry Banigo and Dr. Iziak Salako, recognizes the economic impact of vision loss and supports efforts to prevent avoidable visual impairments.

Omoi Ozoveh Samuel, CBM Nigeria Country Director, describes the program as a turning point in Nigeria's eye health sector.
