Nigeria Targets 12 Bcf Daily Gas Output by 2030

The Nigerian government is ramping up its gas production to 7.5 billion cubic feet per day (bcf) by 2025, with an ambitious target of reaching 12 bcf daily by 2030. Ubong, the Coordinator of the Decade of Gas Secretariat, disclosed this during a workshop in Abuja.

The increase in gas output is attributed to stronger collaboration among government institutions, regulators, investors, and industry players. The initiative, part of the Decade of Gas program running from 2021 to 2030, aims to unlock Nigeria's vast gas reserves, which are critical for economic growth.

The government has identified 215 gas demand projects and requires $22 billion in funding for 16 priority pipeline projects. Additionally, Nigeria plans to increase liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption from 1.8 million tons per annum to 3 million tons by 2030, supporting the distribution of five million gas cylinders nationwide.

Aliyu Moham, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, emphasized the need for deeper regional collaboration to unlock Africa's gas potential.
