FG Restructures TRCN and NTI for Enhanced Teacher Professionalism

The Federal Government of Nigeria has restructured the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and the National Teachers' Institute (NTI) to enhance teachers' professionalism. The Education Minister, Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the realignment to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda.

The NTI will focus on teacher training and professional development, while the TRCN will regulate the teaching profession and license qualified teachers nationwide. The reforms aim to ensure every child is taught by competent professionals meeting high standards.

The changes include revised guidelines for governance, oversight, and accountability, mandatory registration, licensing, and integration with the national Education Management Information System.
