FG Commits to Strengthening Nigeria's Health System

On July 29, 2026, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, reaffirmed the Federal Government of Nigeria's commitment to strengthening the health system.

This commitment is part of ongoing efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through inclusive policies, digital innovation, strategic investments, and improved service delivery. The National Digital Health Architecture, endorsed by all states and the Federal Capital Territory, aims to create an interoperable digital health ecosystem based on the principle of “One Patient, One Health Record.” The Minister emphasized that the reforms under the Eight-Point Health Agenda and the Health Sector Strategic Blueprint are designed to address workforce shortages, infrastructure deficits, and service fragmentation.

These reforms could generate annual economic returns of about N4.8 trillion and significantly improve health outcomes. The Federal Government supports increasing the Basic Health Care Provision Fund from one percent to two percent of the Consolidated Revenue Fund, with N235 billion released since the current administration began.
