Nigerian Government Enhances Inclusive Healthcare Access

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing access to quality, affordable, and inclusive healthcare for vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and rural communities. This commitment was articulated by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, during a stakeholders’ workshop on Project Kampe Bodi, organized by Social Politics, Policy and Governance.

Represented by Dr. Nse Akpan, the minister emphasized the initiative's alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative.

Efforts include broadening health insurance coverage and revitalizing primary healthcare centers. Patience Daniel, an Information Officer in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, highlighted the need for improved accessibility in public hospitals for PWDs.

Ms. Ekaete Umoh from FACICP Disability Plus noted the initiative's focus on health equity for women and girls with disabilities.

Dr. Biobele Davidson from BudgIT described the engagement as a collective effort to build an equitable healthcare system.
