Nigeria Commits to CNG and EV Expansion for Clean Mobility

The federal government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the country's transportation sector by expanding Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure and promoting Electric Vehicles (EVs). This commitment was articulated at the 3rd Nigeria Auto Industry Summit organized by the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association in Lagos on July 30, 2026.

Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, represented by Engr. Zayyanu Tamberi Yabo, the Chief Compliance Officer of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV), stated that the clean mobility program is a key component of the Tinubu administration's transport and energy agenda.

The initiative aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem that supports infrastructure, investment, vehicle conversion, and local manufacturing. Following the removal of fuel subsidies, the initiative seeks to provide affordable transport alternatives by utilizing Nigeria's natural gas resources.

Significant progress has been made in expanding the CNG ecosystem, with an increase in certified conversion centers and refueling stations, alongside rising vehicle conversions and trained technicians nationwide.
