Nigeria Rejects U.S. Claims of Christian Persecution

The Nigerian government has formally rejected a report by U.S. Congressmen that alleged Christian persecution in Nigeria, labeling the claims as misleading.

The Minister of Information stated that there is no government policy targeting any religious group and highlighted the serious security challenges facing Nigeria, including terrorism, banditry, and communal clashes. These issues have resulted in significant loss of life and property.

The report followed U.S. President Donald Trump's designation of Nigeria as a country of particular concern, which prompted a congressional investigation led by Congressman Rilei Moor, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and Tom Cole.

The Nigerian government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of its citizens as guaranteed by the constitution and insisted that foreign partners respect Nigeria's sovereignty. The government will continue to engage with international partners through diplomatic channels while prioritizing the safety of Nigerians.
