Nigeria Seeks Global Support for Clean Cooking Initiative

The Federal Government of Nigeria is actively seeking funding to enhance clean cooking access for five million households by 2030. Ga Ekperikp Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, made this appeal during a high-level dialogue aimed at advancing energy access and clean cooking at the International Energy Agency (IEA) ministerial meeting in Paris.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce energy poverty, improve public health, empower women and youth, and expand the domestic gas market. The clean cooking agenda is aligned with the presidential mandate and is designed to deliver liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to grassroots communities, particularly in rural areas.

Ekpo emphasized the need for private sector investment and a structured financial framework to achieve the target. He also highlighted Nigeria's leadership role in advancing clean cooking access across Africa and invited President Bola Tinubu to attend the 2026 International Summit on Clean Cooking in Nairobi, Kenya, co-chaired by Kenyan President William Ruto.
