Nigeria Promotes Clean Cooking for Climate Action and Investment Growth

Nigeria is focusing on clean cooking as a scalable climate and investment opportunity, with Burn, a leading clean cookstove company, spearheading carbon projects to support Nigeria's efforts in scaling clean cooking across the country. During a high-level media roundtable, discussions centered on the challenges and opportunities in clean cooking, emphasizing the need for policies, private capital, and local manufacturing collaboration to unlock scalable climate actions.

Burn has invested $9.6 million in Nigeria, including establishing an ISO-certified assembly plant in Kano, producing 40,000 clean cook appliances monthly with plans to scale to 100,000 units. Through leveraging carbon finance, Burn has subsidized stove prices by 60-100%, delivering approximately $15 million in discounts to Nigerian households.

This initiative has enabled families to access clean stoves at a fraction of the cost, improving the lives of millions, reducing fuel costs, lowering indoor air pollution, and protecting forests.
