FG and Senator Launch Hepatitis Initiative in Southern Kaduna

On Friday, the Federal Government, represented by Senator Sundai Katung, unveiled Project 365 in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, aimed at addressing viral hepatitis among residents of Southern Kaduna. This initiative, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, targets 620,000 individuals across the Kaduna South Senatorial District.

The program was flagged off by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarab, who emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and vaccination in combating the disease. Senator Katung highlighted that viral hepatitis is a significant public health challenge, often undetected until advanced stages.

The initiative will provide free screening, vaccination, and treatment, alongside awareness campaigns in local communities. The program is scheduled to run from April 13 to May 29, 2026, across eight local government areas, including Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Jema, Sanga, Kagarko, Jaba, Kachia, and Kauru.

Health experts at the event underscored the need for community engagement to reduce stigma associated with the disease.
