Nigeria Launches Steering Committee for Gas Infrastructure

The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated a steering committee to drive the establishment of the National Gas Infrastructure Centre (NGCC), which will serve as a centralized digital platform to enhance transparency and operational efficiency across Nigeria's gas value chain. This initiative is part of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, aiming to provide real-time oversight of the nation's gas infrastructure and unlock greater value from Nigeria's vast gas reserves, targeting a production increase to 12 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2030.

The NGCC will utilize a public-private partnership model for regulatory supervision, with no financial exposure to the federal government. Loui Ibah, spokesman for the Ministry of Petroleum, highlighted the critical role of the command center in Nigeria's gas sector.

The steering committee will ensure policy alignment and strengthen inter-agency collaboration, while Dr. Emmanuel Okon emphasized the importance of real-time monitoring and coordination across the gas infrastructure network.
