FG Launches Committee to Resolve Gas Supply Issues

On a recent date, the Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated a Gas-to-Power Monitoring Committee in Abuja as part of efforts to tackle persistent gas supply challenges undermining electricity generation across the country. Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, described this initiative as a decisive strategic step aimed at resolving critical constraints within the Nigerian electricity supply industry.

According to a statement from the ministry's spokesman, Bolaji Tunji, gas-fired plants account for 80 percent of Nigeria's electricity generation, which continues to face setbacks due to supply disruptions, pipeline vandalism, and mounting debts owed to gas producers. The committee is expected to monitor and drive resolutions on critical issues affecting gas supply, including infrastructure gaps and price challenges, with a focus on repairing damaged pipelines and settling outstanding debts.

The inaugural meeting is set for the first quarter of 2026, marking a significant commitment from the government to address these challenges and enhance reliable power supply in Nigeria.
