Nigeria Enhances Midwifery and Maternal Healthcare Initiatives

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, is launching initiatives to enhance midwifery and maternal healthcare. During a press briefing in Abuja, Pate emphasized the government's commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes across the country, particularly in underserved rural communities.

He revealed the launch of the Nigeria Strategic Direction for Nursing and Midwifery 2025-2030, a comprehensive roadmap designed to strengthen education, expand workforce capacity, and improve service delivery. The strategy includes increasing student intake in midwifery programs, modernizing education standards, and creating additional employment opportunities.

Pate highlighted the critical role of midwives in safeguarding lives during pregnancy and childbirth and reiterated the need for adequate training and support. The initiatives aim to reduce maternal mortality and improve reproductive health, ensuring that every pregnancy is safe and every birth is attended by skilled personnel.
