FG Plans 7,000 Jobs Through Ranching Initiative

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Minister of Livestock Development Idi Mukhtar Maiha, announced a plan to create around 7,000 direct jobs through a state-based ranching program. This initiative, disclosed during a strategic engagement with the management team of Access Bank PLC in Abuja on June 4, 2026, aims to empower youth and women while enhancing livestock production and accelerating rural economic development across the country.

The proposed livestock management model will provide structured opportunities for young people and women to participate in ranch operations and livestock-related enterprises. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to unlock the economic potential of Nigeria's livestock industry, particularly in dairy production, meat processing, feed, fodder development, and leather manufacturing.

The Minister emphasized the need for innovative financial mechanisms tailored to the realities of livestock production and highlighted the importance of establishing modern abattoirs to improve meat quality and safety standards.
