Federal Ministry Boosts Kano Farmers with Livestock Support

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has initiated a program aimed at improving the productivity of small-ruminant farmers in Kano State. This initiative involves training 200 sheep and goat farmers from Fagge, Tarauni, and Gwale Local Government Areas, providing them with animals, feed, and financial support.

The three-day training concluded on September 19, 2026, focusing on enhancing practices in animal feeding, breeding, healthcare, and husbandry. Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, emphasized the importance of equipping farmers with both productive assets and technical knowledge to maximize economic returns.

The program aims to reduce production losses and improve income from livestock farming, particularly benefiting rural households. The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic food production and create economic opportunities, especially for women and youth.

In addition to training, beneficiaries received sheep, goats, animal feed, and stipends to implement their learning effectively.
