Nigeria's Labour Minister Launches Child Labour Policy for 2030

The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a new National Policy on Child Labour and a National Action Plan for the Elimination of Child Labour (2026–2030) to eradicate child labour by 2030. Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, announced this initiative on September 16, 2026, during the National Dialogue on Advancing the Implementation of Nigeria’s National Policy on Child Labour in Abuja.

The policy aims to provide a comprehensive framework for prevention, protection, enforcement, rehabilitation, and accountability in combating child labour. Dingyadi emphasized that child labour is a significant barrier to human dignity and development, affecting millions of children across various sectors.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on economic growth, education, and social welfare. The minister urged state governments to implement the policy and called on employers, civil society, and parents to prioritize children's education and welfare.
