Tinubu Prioritizes Child Labour Eradication in Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared the eradication of child labour a national development priority during the National Dialogue on the implementation of Nigeria’s National Child Labour Policy and National Action Plan, 2026–2030, held in Abuja. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu emphasized that child labour undermines education, economic growth, and national security.

He stated that the Federal Government would intensify efforts to address the conditions that force children into exploitative labour. Tinubu highlighted education as a critical safeguard against child labour and mentioned ongoing reforms aimed at addressing out-of-school children and improving teacher development.

He also noted that the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme would enhance school attendance and reduce hunger among vulnerable children. Additionally, social protection initiatives like the NG-CARES Additional Financing Programme are being implemented to improve household resilience.
