FG Directs Dangote Sugar to Boost Production by 2030

The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed Dangote Sugar Refinery to increase its annual production capacity to 600,000 metric tonnes by the year 2030. This directive was issued by Senator John Enoh, the Minister of State for Industry, during a visit to the Dangote Sugar Refinery complex in Numan, Adamawa State. The visit, which included Mr. Kamar Bakrin, the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, was part of efforts to boost Nigeria's sugar self-sufficiency, as the current local sugar output is significantly below the annual consumption of 1.8 million metric tonnes. The Dangote Sugar Refinery is a major player in the industry and is expected to help bridge the gap in local production. The Minister emphasized the government's commitment to supporting the sugar sector's development and acknowledged the importance of the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan in achieving these goals. Mr. Olakunle Alak, representing Dangote Group, assured the Minister of the company's commitment to meeting the 600,000 metric tonnes target by 2030.
