Nigerian Authorities to Arraign Ansaru Commanders on Terrorism Charges

Two Ansaru commanders, Mahmud Muhammed Usman and Abubakar Abba, are set to be arraigned on terrorism charges by the Nigerian federal authorities. The defendants, accused of aiding and abetting terrorism between 2013 and 2015, are linked to the proscribed organization Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis Sudan.

The arrests were made following an operation conducted by Nigerian security agencies in 2025. The National Security Adviser confirmed the arrests, describing them as a breakthrough in the fight against the Ansaru sect, a splinter group of Boko Haram known for kidnappings and attacks in Nigeria.
