FG Partners with Hydrogeologists for Groundwater Mapping

The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, led by Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, is collaborating with the Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists to improve national groundwater mapping and data collection. This initiative aims to ensure accurate data collection across Nigeria, thereby promoting sustainable development.

During a courtesy visit from Mr. Fash Adam Francisca, the President of the Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists, Prof. Utsev expressed the ministry's commitment to partnering with relevant professional bodies to strengthen the water resources sector. The collaboration will focus on enhancing regulatory water schemes at individual, community, and government levels.

The ministry plans to develop a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to accelerate the implementation of agreed areas of collaboration. The Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists, which comprises registered hydrogeologists and professionals across 36 states, seeks technical collaboration for nationwide groundwater mapping and reliable hydrogeological data collection.

The partnership is expected to significantly contribute to sustainable water resource management and food security in Nigeria.
