FG to Extend Cash Transfers to 2.2 Million Households, N419 Billion Already Disbursed

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to extend cash transfers to 2.2 million households, with N419 billion already disbursed in the current scheme. Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu, revealed in an interview with Channels Television that the next phase of the program is expected to begin by the end of August 2025.

The National Social Coordinating Office (NASSCO) will identify vulnerable Nigerians through the national social register, targeting households in the lowest income bracket. Sununu stated that 71 percent of the funds have already been distributed in the northern region, with 21 percent reaching the southern region.

The program, which aims to support vulnerable individuals, has benefited five million Nigerians to date.
