Nigerian Conditional Cash Transfer Program Faces Transparency Concerns

Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Tanko Sununu, announced that by the end of August, fewer than a million Nigerian households will receive conditional cash transfers. The program aims to assist vulnerable Nigerians based on the national social register, with N419 billion already disbursed to five million beneficiaries, primarily in the northern region.

Sununu emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in managing public resources to ensure the program's effectiveness amidst economic challenges. The call for improved management comes amid concerns about the impact of the cash transfer scheme on poverty reduction efforts.
