FG Warns MTN, Airtel, Glo, T2 Over Network Failures

Bosun Tijani, the Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, issued a strong warning to major telecom operators, including MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom, and T2, regarding their failure to resolve ongoing network challenges. Tijani stated that the Federal Government would take regulatory action against these companies if they do not significantly improve service quality, including call quality, data performance, and network coverage.

He emphasized that improvements in the telecommunications sector are fundamental for creating a stable, transparent, and market-driven environment that can attract profit and investment. Recent reforms and fresh capital inflows are expected to address long-standing infrastructure gaps.

The Federal Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, is establishing a special purpose vehicle to enhance nationwide access to fiber infrastructure, with deployment expected to commence alongside a new tower rollout by the end of the year. This initiative aims to ensure that small business owners and households have reliable access to high-speed fiber internet.
