Nigeria's Digital Switch Over Launch Set for June 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to roll out the Digital Switch Over (DSO) nationwide on June 17, 2026. Mohan Idri, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, announced this during a facility tour at the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) headquarters in Abuja.

The DSO project aims to transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, which is expected to improve audience measurement and advertising effectiveness in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. Jane Egerton-Idihen, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NigComSat, emphasized that the DSO will provide high-definition, free, and clean television services, enhancing viewer experience and competition among content producers.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), represented by Charl Ebuebu, noted that the new platform will offer 100 television channels daily and establish six regional studios nationwide to support content creators and reduce reliance on Lagos and Abuja.
