FG and UN-Habitat Partner for Sustainable Housing in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Engr. Muttaqa Rabe Darma, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, is set to collaborate with UN-Habitat to enhance sustainable housing and urban development across Nigeria. During a courtesy visit from Mr. Oumar Sylla, the Regional Director for Africa at UN-Habitat, Darma expressed appreciation for the organization's technical support to various state governments.

He acknowledged the importance of reviewing national urban development policies and urban renewal to address socio-economic development and insecurity in Nigerian cities. Darma called for continued collaboration in sustainable urban planning and housing delivery.

He assured the delegation that despite Nigeria's current fiscal challenges, the ministry remains committed to fulfilling its financial obligations under the existing memorandum of understanding with UN-Habitat. Sylla congratulated Darma on his appointment and highlighted ongoing UN-Habitat programs aimed at improving access to affordable housing and urban transformation, particularly in the northeast region of Nigeria.
