Nigeria Launches Centralized Passport Centre for Faster Processing

The Nigerian government unveiled a centralized Passport Personalization Centre at the NIS headquarters in Abuja to streamline passport processing. The new facility aims to enhance efficiency, reduce delays, and align Nigeria's passport system with global standards.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi, highlighted the transition from a decentralized system with 96 centers to a centralized approach for higher quality and efficiency. The new center boasts increased capacity, producing around 1,000 passports per hour.

Applicants can now receive their passports within 24 hours, a significant improvement from the previous processing times. The reform also introduced a unified passport series, eliminating duplication and standardizing the passport issuance process.
