FG Launches Compulsory Entrepreneurship Program in 14 Varsities

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has unveiled a compulsory entrepreneurship program for students in 14 federal universities, set to be implemented by 2027.

This initiative aims to equip graduates with practical skills alongside their academic degrees, addressing the decline in traditional employment opportunities influenced by technological advancements. The program will shift students from passive learners to active innovators, preparing them to become nation builders.

It will introduce entrepreneurship training in the first year, develop intermediate skills by the 200-300 level, and culminate in business incubator ventures in the final year. Selected universities include the University of Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University, and others.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu's agenda to renew the education sector and enhance STEM education. Additionally, the Federal Government has introduced a student venture capital grant, attracting 36,000 applications, with 63 finalists set to receive funding.

The program is expected to provide 1 billion Naira in low-interest credit to support student businesses.
