Nigeria Launches Entrepreneurship Certification in Universities

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled an Entrepreneurship Certification program through the Entrepreneurship Innovation Business Incubation Centre (EIBIC) in 14 federal universities, aiming to shift the focus of education towards practical entrepreneurship. This initiative is designed to ensure that Nigerian graduates become job creators rather than job seekers, addressing economic challenges.

The universities involved represent six geopolitical zones and include notable institutions such as the University of Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University, and Bayero University Kano. The program was approved by the Senate at the end of April and is set to be implemented by 2027, with federal polytechnics and colleges of education included by 2028.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, expressed optimism about student enthusiasm for this initiative, which aims to embed entrepreneurship in every degree program, fostering innovation and decent job creation in Nigeria.
