Nigeria Launches Polio Emergency Operations Centre in Katsina

The Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated a Polio Emergency Operations Centre in Katsina State as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the country's fight against polio. The centre, which has a capacity of 100, was unveiled to improve emergency response coordination within the health sector.

Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahaya, the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency, emphasized that the centre would enhance data management and strengthen rapid response mechanisms to tackle circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV).

The operations centre will facilitate house-to-house campaigns to track every case and ensure that no child is missed during vaccination efforts. The initiative received commendation from President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda was also praised for investing in primary healthcare and health security in Katsina State. The Nigerian Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) is a key partner in this initiative, which aims to reduce wild poliovirus cases to zero.
