Sokoto Governor Launches Polio Immunization Campaign

On Wednesday, Governor Ahmadu Aliyu of Sokoto State officially launched the 2026 outbreak response campaign against poliovirus. He warned officials against the misuse of immunization funds and reiterated his administration's commitment to ending polio transmission in the state.

The campaign will ensure full coverage, with a state technical team deploying adequate personnel across 244 wards to visit 2,830 households. Children aged 0-59 months will receive the NOPV and BOPV vaccines, while those aged 6 weeks to 59 months will receive the FIPV vaccine.

Additionally, 3,151 trained healthcare workers will be stationed at temporary posts to administer vaccines, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. Governor Aliyu called for cooperation from local government chairmen and traditional rulers to ensure the program's success.

He also highlighted the importance of transparency in utilizing health care funds. Dr.

Faruk Wurno commended the state's progress in health indicators, while Sultan Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar reaffirmed the Sultanate Council's support for polio eradication efforts.
