Nigeria Launches Unified Framework for Poverty Reduction

The Federal Government of Nigeria unveiled a new unified framework aimed at reforming the country's humanitarian and poverty reduction architecture. Announced by Dr.

Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, during a press conference in Abuja, this initiative seeks to end fragmented interventions that have failed to adequately support vulnerable citizens. The new system, known as the OHOPR (On Humanitarian and Poverty Response), is designed to create a single coordinated platform for humanitarian action and social protection.

It aims to address fundamental weaknesses in Nigeria's humanitarian ecosystem, such as lack of coordination among institutions and ineffective poverty response mechanisms. The framework will implement five major structural changes, including a unified beneficiary database and a focus on measuring poverty exit outcomes.

Success will depend on collaboration across various government levels and partnerships with development partners, civil society, and the private sector.
