Nigeria Adopts Unified Framework for Poverty Reduction

The Federal Government of Nigeria, alongside partners, has announced the adoption of a unified national framework for poverty reduction called the OHOPRS (On Humanitarian and Poverty Response System). Dr.

Bernard M. Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, announced this during a four-day technical workshop held at the United Nations House in Abuja.

The new framework aims to address long-standing inefficiencies and fragmentation in Nigeria's humanitarian and poverty reduction systems. It seeks to consolidate multiple registries into a single integrated national registry and shift from project-based approaches to a pooled account framework.

The government plans to introduce a real-time monitoring system to enhance transparency and effectiveness. The OHOPRS framework is designed to provide a structured pathway for citizens, identifying vulnerable individuals and guiding them towards self-reliance and sustainable poverty exit strategies.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's broader Renew Hope Agenda, which focuses on driving inclusive growth and long-term development across Nigeria.
