Keyamo Addresses Safety Violations by Private Jet Operators

The federal government of Nigeria is alarmed by the violations of regulatory rules by some pilots in corporate aviation and helicopter charter services, which pose significant safety risks in the airspace. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, stated that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is facing challenges with private jet operators who disregard regulations meant to ensure safe operations.
This issue was highlighted during the 2026 Alliance for Hydromet Development Annual Meeting in Lagos. Keyamo noted that private jet pilots often do not obtain necessary weather reports from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) before flights, unlike scheduled operators who adhere to regulations.
To address this, Keyamo inaugurated a seven-man ministerial task force committee aimed at regulating illegal private charter operations and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. NIMET's Director General, Professor Charles Anosike, confirmed that the agency provides real-time weather reports to pilots through digital platforms.
