FG Strengthens Social Work Practice in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Hajiya Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, is actively working to enhance social work practice in the country. During a high-level strategic dialogue held at the Continental Hotel in Abuja, Ibrahim reaffirmed the government's commitment to the Nigerian Council for Social Work and emphasized the urgent need for collaboration among institutions to strengthen the profession.

She noted that the social work sector must unite to address the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, including children, women facing violence, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Ibrahim highlighted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aims to deliver tangible results by 2026, focusing on a unified and mature social work system capable of addressing Nigeria's growing social challenges.

UNICEF's Ms. Mona Aika commended the government's efforts and stressed the importance of establishing a regulatory framework to improve service delivery and child protection systems across Nigeria.
