FG to Strengthen Social Work with New Council Inauguration

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Alleviation, and Disaster Management, Dr. Bernard Doro, is taking steps to strengthen the social work profession in the country. During a recent visit from the leadership of the Nigerian Association of Social Workers, Dr. Doro announced plans to establish a council and framework that will enable the profession to thrive and deliver measurable impact.

He emphasized that social work is a pillar of human development, extending beyond a mere career path to being foundational for building stable and inclusive societies. The Social Work Act 2022 provides legal backing for the profession, and the ministry is open to strategic collaborations aimed at enhancing social protection delivery.

Dr. Doro also highlighted the ministry's flagship initiatives on humanitarian response and poverty alleviation, which are designed to eliminate fragmented service delivery. The Nigerian Association of Social Workers, represented by Alhaji Mashood Mustapha, advocated for the immediate inauguration of the social work council to further strengthen the profession.
