FG and World Bank Launch Vocational Training for Kano Youths

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the World Bank, has initiated a vocational training program aimed at empowering 1,500 youths in Kano. The program, which was flagged off by Dr.

Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, focuses on various skills including carpentry, phone repair, and ICT management. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to tackle youth unemployment and enhance vocational education in Nigeria.

Shedrack Tukura, who represents the program's monitoring and evaluation efforts, highlighted its significance in strengthening Nigeria's skill development system. Launched in 2022, the program has already enrolled 250,000 youths across 2,600 centers nationwide, with plans to reach one million beneficiaries in its second phase.

The training encompasses 36 skill areas with a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and employability. Trainees will receive a monthly stipend and recognized certification, enabling them to secure employment or start their own businesses.

The project adopts a new certification model based on competencies rather than theoretical knowledge.
