FG Launches Skills Training Program to Combat Youth Unemployment

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated a skills training program to combat rising youth unemployment, with support from the World Bank. The program was officially launched in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, by Dr. Mistura Rufai, an education specialist at the World Bank.

She emphasized the importance of participants taking the training seriously, highlighting its potential economic impact and the need for self-reliance. The initiative aims to drastically reduce unemployment among youth by fostering entrepreneurship and equipping them with relevant skills.

Over a six-month period, trainees will receive a monthly stipend to cover their feeding and transportation costs. Currently, there are 33 training centers allocated for this program, with varying capacities of 50, 100, and 150 slots.

Dr. Raphael Princ, chairman of the organizing committee, disclosed that the program's objective is to empower participants and create a skilled workforce that can reduce dependency on government support.
