FIFA Approves Arthur Okonkwo for Nigeria's Super Eagles

FIFA has officially cleared Arthur Okonkwo, a 24-year-old goalkeeper, to represent Nigeria at the senior international level ahead of the March Invitational Tournament. This approval comes as Nigeria's Super Eagles prepare to travel to Amman, Jordan, to face Iran on March 27, with the team expected to open camp on March 24.

Okonkwo's clearance is timely, especially as questions arose regarding the availability of first-choice goalkeeper Stanlei Nwabali, who is currently without a club. Okonkwo's switch of allegiance from England to Nigeria was formalized in January 2026, concluding a lengthy process.

Born to Nigerian parents in London, Okonkwo previously represented England at youth levels from 2015 to 2019, earning caps for U15, U16, U17, and U18 teams. His commitment to Nigeria followed discussions with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chell during the Unity Cup in London last year.

Okonkwo, who has been performing well at Wrexham, has kept six clean sheets in 20 league appearances this season.
