FIFA Approves Okonkwo to Play for Nigeria National Team

FIFA has officially cleared Wrexham AFC's goalkeeper, Okonkwo, to represent Nigeria's national team. This decision was announced on April 6, and it follows the approval from the Football Association in England.

Okonkwo, who has previously represented England at various youth levels, earning 10 caps across U16, U17, and U19 teams from 2016 to 2019, is now eligible to be selected by Nigeria's Super Eagles coach, Eric Chell. The 24-year-old goalkeeper, a product of Arsenal's academy, has played a key role in Wrexham's rise, helping the club secure three consecutive promotions to the Championship.

He currently ranks among the top 10 goalkeepers in terms of clean sheets this season, boasting a 68% save rate and recording 40 clean sheets over three seasons. Okonkwo is expected to compete for a place in Nigeria's squad alongside other goalkeepers such as Stanlei Nwabali, Maduka Okoye, and Uzoho.
