FIFA Appoints Referees for Argentina vs. Switzerland Match

FIFA has announced the officiating team for the quarter-final match between Argentina and Switzerland in the World Cup 2026, set to take place on July 11 at 9 PM EDT at Kansas City Stadium. João Pinheiro from Portugal will serve as the central referee, with his compatriots Bruno Jesus and Luciano Maia acting as assistant referees 1 and 2, respectively.

Drew Fischer from Canada will be the fourth official, while Michael Barwegen will serve as the reserve assistant referee. FIFA maintains a practice of assigning officials from countries not involved in the fixture to ensure impartiality.

Earlier, FIFA had named the officiating team for the Argentina versus France-Morocco match, with Facundo Tello as the central referee and Juan Pablo Belatti and Gabriel Chade as assistant referees. Dario Herrera will serve as the fourth official, and Cristian Navarro will be the reserve assistant referee.

The winner of the Argentina-Switzerland match will advance to the semi-finals.
